Tiny Pools Tips For Freezing Temps

When the forecast calls for freezing temperatures, be prepared so you keep your Tiny Pool safe and happy! Follow these freeze prep tips for your Tiny Pool.

  • Your Pentair equipment has built-in freeze protection. As long as we still have power, the system will enter Thermal Mode, and will continue to run until temperatures are above freezing. The movement of the water will help to prevent it from freezing. You don't need to run your heater.

  • Make sure the pool is clean ahead of the freeze. If your skimmers or drain are blocked with leaves and other debris it can prevent the pump from moving enough water to prevent freezing. Check and clean the skimmer basket(s) daily if needed during freezing temps.

  • Maintain the proper water level, which is halfway up your waterline tile (approx. 3”). If the water level gets too low, your skimmers will run dry, water will stop moving through the pool equipment and your plumbing could freeze.

  • If you have autofill, turn off the valve at the spigot where the water line is teed off. Next, go to the autofill valve (it’s located next to your skimmer), and push down on the plunger to release the pressure in the line.

  • If you have a cover, keep it closed.

  • If ice forms on top of the pool, break it to allow it move around and it will melt.

What if we lose power?

  • Turn off the breaker(s) to your pool equipment if the power goes out. This will keep it from coming back on immediately when the power returns.

  • Drain the equipment. Remove all drain plugs from every piece of equipment in the system (i.e. pumps, filter, and heater) to drain the water. Open all valves to relieve any pressure in the system.

  • Cover your pool equipment with tarps and/or blankets. This can help protect your equipment and plumbing from freezing. ONLY cover your equipment if the power is turned off and remove any coverings before the power comes back on.

WhEN THE power COMES BACK ON

Follow these steps in reverse. Replace all your drain plugs, then re-start your system. You may need to prime your pump before re-starting your system.
